In April 2011, KHS went quiz mad, starting with the annual Newry and Mourne Schools’ competition held in the Canal Court Hotel. Miss Roddy, 8 senior students, plus Mr Harris and Mrs Newell, had a great night, listening to music, spotting famous people and having a laugh. The evening ended at 10pm after a tasty supper and an equally generous awards’ ceremony.

This is THE quiz to go in for, as the prizes are brilliant! This year the Council handed out gift cards for BUTTERCRANE and Anya Harris, a member of the winning team, was thrilled with her card for £60. Suzanne Graham, in second place, walked away with a prize of £40 and Sam Rogers, in 3rd position, was very happy to receive a £30 token. That evening all the teams had 8 students in them, sourced from the different local schools taking part. Each student in the top 3 teams won cash prizes and all had a very profitable night!

Emma Newell, Rebekah Forsythe, Stacey Edwards, Amy Morris and Sarah Chambers also gave up their evening to support KHS and we would like to thank them and Newry and Mourne Council for making it such a great night.

Look out for this quiz in 2012, 6th Formers, and be sure to put your name down, as only 8 students may attend.

The very next day saw the start of the INTER-HOUSE QUIZ and after lots of Senior and Junior team discussion, or shouting out the answer if you got too excited, EAGLE cruised home 4 points clear of DONARD and miles in front of BIGNIAN!

Better luck next year guys!

All this would not be possible but for the hard work and dedication of a team of our trusty question setters…

Mr “Sport” Hamilton, Mr “Music” Cowan, Ms “Geography” Mackey, Mrs “Film and TV” McAtee who also marks the question booklets and, of course, Miss Roddy who sets the General Knowledge rounds and asks all the questions.

It really is a great way to spend a lunch time and have fun with your friends.

We hope to have lots more quizzing opportunities this year coming so I say get involved, support your House and have a bit of craic. If nothing else, it will look good on your pupil personal profile!!
